#toronto-furry
#toronto-furry is a community-run IRC channel for
furries within the Greater Toronto Area and beyond to
interact, socialize, and plan events.
By entering this channel, you agree to abide by the
following:
Channel Rules
1) Furnet's Code
of Conduct applies to this channel in terms of user
expectations - please read it before you read anything
else as all of its points apply here. Where there is any
dispute, the laws of the Province of Ontario shall apply;
we will directly cooperate with any law enforcement
agency if called upon to do so.
2) This is a publicly-accessible chat room. You should
not expect that any conversations that take place in this
channel will remain private.
3) This is not a yiff channel. (There are plenty of
channels on this network to "play" in public,
as well as query/PMs. Please use them instead.)
Similarly, if you want to post any images that would be
considered "adult", make sure you mention them
as such.
4) Flaming, trolling, and/or being disruptive is not
welcome.
5) Discussing, contributing, interacting, and having
fun absolutely is!
Mods / Access Lists
A number of access lists are used to delineate various
roles on the channel; the perk of this is that you are
automatically voiced or opped when you enter the channel.
However, to do this you need to register your nickname on
the server. Feel free to ask if you need help with this.
VOP (marked by +): Anyone can have it,
basically, regardless of how long you've been here. If
you intentionally don't have this, you probably did
something very wrong (see below).
AOP (marked by @): Moderator. Given to regulars.
SOP (marked by &): Also a moderator, but
has the power to add and remove people from the VOP and
AOP control access lists.
All moderators have the ability to moderate when
things are getting out of hand through the following
means (generally in increasing order of severity):
- Set channel mode +m and devoice the user. This allows
the person to read chat progress, but not talk.
- Kick said user.
- Short-term channel ban (5 minutes - 1 hour).
- Long-term/permanent channel ban (24 hours or more).
Anyone can become an op, but it's in their best
interests to read the following first:
Guidelines For Ops:
1) Op status is awarded to people who are regular
contributors to the channel. Generally, ops will be given
out after you've been here for several weeks under the
understanding that you'll continue to contribute and
follow the above guidelines first and foremost. (See
the "everyone" part?)
2) And in that respect, don't step in unless you
absolutely feel you have to in order to keep the peace.
If you get the feeling you intervening would be
controversial, it's probably best that you don't. There's
no need to be in so-called "moderator mode" all
the time.
3) If you do act, don't do it independently. Keep
other folks in the know.
4) If you believe any of the points in Furnet's Code
of Conduct are being violated, go to #furnet and report
it.
5) We promote free speech up to the point where it
completely interferes with the usability of the channel.
Op status shall NOT be used to suppress or promote any
given viewpoint.
6) Anything that happens outside this channel is just
that - outside our sphere of influence. If someone got
banned elsewhere, that's no reason for them to be banned
here unless they do something in here to deserve
it.
7) You are not obligated to have ops if you don't want
it. If you wish to voluntarily withdraw your AOP status,
message an SOP or higher and they will remove you from
the access list.
8) AOP status is a privilege, not a right. Failure to
use the privilege appropriately will result in the loss
of operator privileges (temporarily or permanently) or an
outright channel ban for a duration as seen appropriate.
Okay... that's enough of that. Enjoy!
