The Imagination-Driven Epic Adventure System

This page is dedicated to IDEAS, the system which all my players are using, be it tabletop, over modem or on IRC. It contains rule-updates and news about the system.
The Big Push! On August 18th, Jason, who's been playing in IDEAS for 8-9 years and GMing in it nearly as long finally made a concerted effort to move me towards publication. Good luck to him and me. Il etait grand temps!
The Stuff Rules for added to IDEAS to handle tertiary scores like Blood, Paradox, Rage.. examples are Dream Energy, Rage, Blood, and so on.
How to use the IRC dice engine When we play on IRC, we have a dice-engine built right into the channel (I can't use it, since it's triggered by me.. grr). Basically, you use it this way:
  • Make a save vs. N : type "save N"
  • Find the DG of a Level L: type "dg DG L" where DGis your degree and L your level.
  • Find how many DGs Level L1 is of Level L2 "dgo L1 L2"

Example: In combat, here is how you would make an attack:

Alex rolls vs. his 145 Prowess
    >save 145
    He gets back:
Alex saved vs. 145 and got 6DG
Alex has 160 Strength (H2H damage) so to calculate damage, he types
    >dg 6 160
    He gets back:
    Alex: 6DG of 160 is 10DG (100)
This means Alex did 100 Body damage. His target if he had 240 Body would type:
    >dgo 100 240
    And get back:
    100 is 4DG of 240
This means the target took 4DG Body damage.
"Diceless" IDEAS IDEAS relies upon a table for its percentile action system, which in some ways is a drawback. The following experimental system can be used in place of that table. All you need is a D10 and get your math gears working:

Assuming: You have a level, L vs. which you wish to save.

Step I. roll D10 and multiply by the DG of L.

Step II. If the last digit of your result is 5 or more, and if you didn't roll 0 or 9, go to step IV.

Step III. (optional) Roll another D10 and multiply by DG of Level, add DG of the result to Step II.

Step IV. Take DG of result, rounding (scientifically.)

Examples: I II III IV
Panhaligon saves vs. 65 Investigation roll 7 7x7=49 49 (5DG)
Alex saves vs. 80 Coordination roll 4 4x8=32 roll 7, 7x8 = 56 (6DG) 32+6 = 38 (4DG)
Hallowe'en Man saves vs. 155 Agility roll 0 0 roll 4, 4x16 = 64 (7DG) 7 (1DG)
