This is Loopy, a costume very dear to my heart and a real bitch (no offense loopy) to build.. Much harder than the gargoyle because so many of the measurements were things on my own body that I had to try, fail, try again, fail, arg! I was determined upon making this to make Loopy the way I thought a werewolf should look, i.e., a cross between a wolf and a man, not a ferocious 7ft 300lb snarling killing machine. The costume is a partial biped, functioning on two or four legs, and unlike Korul, gives me 100% agility and 100% visibility (I can cartwheel in the Loopy suit and often do.) |
| I recently re-did the Loopy digitigrade feet.. They're many times more comfy and lighter, giving me vastly more agility.. which is cool. That doesn't alter the fact that the first day I wore them I blistered the back of my heels something horrible.. hope they heal! Anyway.. I'll keep improving Loopy a lil', but he's basically done.. He did get a good haircut (and for a werewolf that literally means.. feet, mane, arms, tail) before I went out Hallowe'en.. Wanned to look my best! |
| Costume Family: As my little costume family grows, it's eerie how each takes on their own life. Loopy has become Korul's "younger brother" and I work hard to make sure Loopy gets the attention Korul did, because I feel bad for the little guy laboring in the shadow of a famous older brother, and I guess that makes me the Dad. Sometimes when I'm fussing over Loopy I look up and see the gargoyle's head looking at me, and I'll say "Don't worry, gargoyle, you're still beautiful.." and give it a lil kiss on the beak. What will happen when Loopy and Korul are joined by Salem, and the Gryphon, and Jessica? I'm also amazed at how different <I> am in the two costumes. Korul is very reserved, shy, withdrawn.. Loopy is more cozy, freindly, approachable and funny, .. and in some strange way, I'm more me when I'm in Loopy that I am when I'm "dressed up" as me. |
| Costume Evolution: It's odd how the costumes are showing my personal development. I had a terrible personal tragedy in my life that just destroyed me and that's when I began sculpting and making Korul and he showed very much the person I was then.. or how people saw me.. cold, distant, maybe reptilian. Impressive, but at arm's length. And his personality is shy, wallflowery. Loopy shows how far I've come from then, though still wounded I'm learning how to relate to people. Loopy's cuddly, approachable, chummy, real, pally.. Easy to pet, easy to talk to, kinda funny and not afraid to be dumb or show that he's not invulnerable. Loopy's very human, just like you. I find it odd that these suits are showing on the outside what I'm feeling on the inside.. maybe that's why I feel so comfortable in them, because in a strange way, I'm being totally honest: I put on a mask to take one off. |
| Who or what is Loopy? Well,
there's a whole page of the mythos
behind the character, but basically, he's a werewolf.. Somebody said
to me, "I hate to tell ya but that is the cutest
werewolf I've ever seen.." YEAH that's right! A
cross between a man and a wolf, wolves are cute, they are not snarling,
killing machines. So Loopy is cute, cause wolves are cute (and some people
are too).. He is also part dog (husky to be exact) which is why he has
white fluffy fur and a curled-up tail. C'mon people.. these are the 90's,
time to let go of the stereotypes.

Most Terrific Presentation & Best Construction |

At Archon21 I had a human transformation sequence.. I went from person to a werewolf onstage. I won Best Presentation (maybe for that), and Best Construction, maybe for the legs.. I dunno.. but best of all, and this is true, was the fuss people made over Loopy walkin' around. Oh they love Korul there's no doubt, but people make innuendo at Loopy that they never make at the gargoyle.. comments about my "tail" and "doggy-style" and they pet me and stroke me and whatnot.. Also, this costume reaches small children.. who come up and pet it maybe the way I felt about Puss n Boots when I was little. It was just so nice for Loopy to finally be out of the shadow of his older brother..! |
