Dramatic by Lionus (2003)
A dramatic pose
Pencil and then Photoshop rendering. This piece was especially pleasing to me since it represents a number of artistic "breakthroughs." The most important one being my taking another step away from being restricted to coloring inside the lines. Sure, black lines make a picture look as though the coloring came after long hours of inking, but there really aren't any black lines encircling us in real life. If you need to run off to a mirror to check for outlines, I'll wait here until you return. :).
For those of you who came back, my next important breakthrough in this picture was in the concept of creating "super shadow" and "super highlight" layers. If you have not worked with Photoshop, then that won't mean too much to you. But to me, it is another step in getting away from producing digital art that looks as though it was done in soft pastels.
Lastly, the figure's pose came from my earlier clothed "Let My People Go" picture (which I should put up for comparison).
