DVD soon appearing at your favorite retailer. ;)

Pencil to Photoshop.

Group pics are a lot of fun to do since they tell a story. So while you are drawing the pic or spending the long hours in coloring it you are imagining all the twists and turns of the plot. The hardest part of this piece has been the part that shows the least -- the three-plane background. The mansion, the ball park and the locker room. Each plane, with its complexity, possessed the ability to drag the eye away from the story I was trying to suggest in the foreground. Yet I needed to allow each of them to be recornizable for what they were or they would pull away the attention of the viewer out of sheer curiosity. "What the heck are those places??" :)

I have a slowly growing collection of movie DVDs. One of the things that induces me to buy a DVD is the cover art. Like a poster of a movie or a play, the artwork has to work by suggestion and curiosity. 'Who are those characters and what are they doing together the way I am seeing them?' It's the artist's job to put across a tempting hint of the story without giving the story away.

The idea for "Pursuit of the Golden Woodie" came to me last summer when I was outisde mowing the lawn. It's a comedy movie that I came up in my imagination that I would love to go and see. It is full of double-meanings, role-reversals, greed, change of fortunes, naieve innocence, imminent sex, and love.
