The Source Of Magic In Anteriel:
Nearly all sentient beings in Anteriel posses the ability to harness magical energies. And although some may find that it comes more easily to them, it is still an artform which takes countless years of training and study to master. Throughout the centuries, few furres in Anteriel have ever attained the status of Legendary Master. Most who study the artform are relegated to simple cantrips and tricks, such as moving small objects and conjuring flame. And though it is true that none in Anteriel really know the true origin of this strange force known as magic, there are numerous theories which have formulated over the years.

Theory Of Lifeblood: Established by the Legendary Master, Miridaus Greycorpse, this theory recognizes magical energy in the universe as a constant. When a furre is born, magical energy is 'pulled' from the pooled reserves of the universe, or ether, and infused with their blood. When a furre dies, this energy is subsequently 'yanked' from them and restored to the ether until an new life is born. Through this process, a gentle balance is maintained. As a side note, this theory is the one which is most widely held by the cast of mages known as the Nachzehrer.

Theory Of Worldstone: This theory, first proposed by the Arch-Magi Zoshtar Mannoth, states that there is, somehwhere in the world of Systra, a solid physical manifestation of magical energy. Furthermore, this manifestation serves as the source for all magical energy everywhere. Basically, Worldstonians believe that hidden somewhere, perhaps at the core of the planet, there is a huge magical stone which radiates the energies mages utilize to conjure. This theory, supporters claim, is further substantiated by the fact that small, rare crystals, found on the surface of Systra and throughout Anteriel, can be used to boost a mage's magical abilities. Supposedly these are shards from the worldstone, itself.

Theory Of Balance: This theory, established by Arch-Magi Memnoch Galtennier, claims simply that magic exists everywhere and in everything in the universe. Furthermore, when a mage conjures, they 'pull' energy from their surroundings, and then immediately return the energy as a result of their spell. Basically, proponants of Balance belive that nature serves to fuel magic, and that magic serves to fuel nature. Mages of the Fey are the chief supporters of this theory of magical existence.

Theory Of Mind: Legendary Master Xorin Hoshimoto etablished this theory, which claims that the furre mind itself serves as the source of magic. Psyonicists, as believers of this theory call themselves, claim that through meditation and devote study, a mage can harness the power of their own minds to conjure magic. Certain extremeists who believe in this theory also claim that the universe is simply a product of the mind, and that as a result, the mind can alter the universe itself. ("There is no spoon...")

Theory Of Theology: Though it is unknown who proposed this theory, it is without a doubt the eldest of theories in Anteriel. Theologists believe in a fundamental supreme being, or god or goddess, who supplies his or her believers with the power to conjure magic. It is believed that through prayer and sacrifice, a mage can attain more and more power from their grateful god or goddess. Throughout the kingdom, there are many subsets of this belief, differentiated by their different gods or godesses of choice. Faiths range from the worshippers of Harul, who believe in devoting their life to good and using their powers to heal the sick and sooth the dieing, to the worshippers of Sarvall, who believe in doing acts of evil, gaining power through the suffering of others.
