Well al-Thoth my publisher was not laughing then because Al Azif just was not very good. I have never think that it was a very good book, but always people have buy it and copy it and plagiarize it so I must have hitting on something. Any way, al-Thoth had his scribes adding in a bunch of illustrations and lurid pictures to better sell the book.
In that original edition Al Azif was being a moderate success. The trouble with it was that al-Thoth had miscalculating the amount of the advance money that he had to give to me. So he was wanting to talk to me about the money. I was think that he wanted them back, and of course I had already spend them at the opium dens. I was think to have no choices but to leave Damascus, which I did one night. Lucky to me that al-Thoth's scribes did not to find me, he had some big scribes to working for him, like to be called "bruisers" today who would have really to putting a hurt on me but good. One all most was see me once, but didn't. Whew!
