Alexander Pope once said that "Histories are more full of examples of the fidelity of dogs than of friends." The great Sa'Di observed that "A dog will never forget the crumb thou gavest him, though thou mayst afterwards throw a hundred stones at his head." And Groucho Marx added, "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read."
