Still haven't landed a new job.... still havn't got loads of free
time. But, new stuff added... Oct 3, 2000
 |
After playing around with the Blue
on blue TARDIS, I wanted to try my hand at a more traditional
design. So I created this rough concept based on the later interor
set. It uses the chunky corner pillars - but, is laid out in
a hexagonal manner. |
 |
And what good is a more traditional console room, without
a more traditional console? I started building this one based
on screencaps from Hartnell stories. It's a bit further along
than when this picture was rendered, but it's still not done
yet. |
 |
Another concept, along the lines of a what-if. In this case,
what-if K9 were designed for a modern audience. Based loosely
on the redesign of the Lost In Space robot, from the feature
film. I went for the same round-shapes over utilitarian machinery. |
 |
A peek at the control panel on the redesigned K9. Big color-coded
buttons, in a circular pattern, to fit in with the rounde-shape
theme. And a nice big nametag right in the middle. |

WARNING!! Big File!!! 1.2 megs!!!
Thanks to a friend, I've switched from AVI to Mpeg.. that means
smaller animation files, which means I can do longer animations
without worrying about the files being too big to donload. In
this one, I've done another TARDIS fly-by. It's got a bit more
style to it, and more subtle and spectacular background. It
was designed as part of the title sequence for a fictional 3D
animated series. |
 |
Okay, It's been awhile since I added anything new. My life
is still a bit hectic, and looking for work has kinda cut into
the free time I used to have. But, I've been working on a project
for someone, and it's WHO-related, so I figured I'd toss these
frames up as an appeasement for all the stuff I haven't been
able to upload. Basically, I'm building a close duplicate of
the Tom Baker title sequence, for a Doctor Who fan-film being
made by the fine folks at Back
To Reality Productions. There's a long story about why I'm
doing this... |
 |
...and here's the reason. They had originally asked me sometime
last year to design them a sequence based loosely on the "Trial
of a Timelord" title sequence, and I had set dutifully
to work, crafting a somewhat decent moving star background..
But then, the sudden loss of job took my time away from it
- and just as I was able to get back to it, my machine was
tagged by a lightning bolt. I lost a bunch of files, including
the ones I used to create the sequence, not to mention the
sequence itself. All I have left of it is this "widescreen
test" MPG I had run off, when they had wanted to see
how it would look in theatrical aspect ratio. Rather than
take the time to rebuild the volumetric models and do the
rendering time for the star background (massive CPU time,
there) Instead I'm doing the quicker-to-render tunnel sequences
of the Baker Era. All in all, I think the baker sequence will
end up looking better anyway. I'm archiving the widescreen
clip as a "what might have been." needless to say
the baker sequence has been backed up several times.
BIG FILE!!! - 4.25megs!!!

I actually made this last year, just before all my trouble
started. Never had time to put it online, but here it is now.
It's the poster for a Doctor Who movie I had been writing. Sort
of my anser to the botched-up one FOX put out. If I ever get
around to finishing it, I may put it online too. But here's
the poster at least. |
 |
Well, here it is, sort of.... This is a "rough cut"
of the final "tom baker" title sequence. Everything's
pretty much finalised as per look and timing. The only changes
planned at this stage are inserting a different facial photo
- one with the appropriate shadows. The one currently in the
sequence was taken with (ugh) the camera's flash on...
Details: sequence consists of 3d animated sequences created
in Bryce 4. Those sequences were composited in premiere and
retouched to more closely approximate the look & feel
of the original slit-scan shots. However, I took some liberties
with the design of the individual elements - I wanted it to
be more evocative of the original sequence than a xerox copy
of it. The 3D design also allowed me to do a few things that
probably couldn't have been done with the original technology,
such as a chromed logo. >:) woo! it's all hi-tech and shiny...
WARNING: 5.8meg file!!! Big download!!!
