| Prelude
The water poured. The dark clouds whence it came rolled over the sky sadly. The occasional person would spash through the mud, and cringe when a bright flash lit the sky and a humongous noise shook the houses and huts in the villiage. But they all had places to go, things to do, and people to talk to. But there was one who didn't. He was sitting in his home, a small hut. His bed was next to the window. He looked out longingly. But what was there to long for? He had lost everything. His parents were casualties of war and his brother was long dead. His sadness was beyond tears. He turned from the window, looking into his hut. It was neat and tidy, only because he had picked up the belongings strewn over the floor. It had another bed near there, for he lived with his best friend. His best friend was like a brother to him... But he could not understand. He hadn't talked to him in days. He hadn't talked to anyone in days. He had no one. He knew what he had to do. He already had his green backpack at his side. It was filled with his belongings, although there were not many. There was no luxury in Knothole anymore with Robotnik sabotoging food scouts and spies. He slid off of the warmth of his small warm feather bed. He put his backpack on slowly. Perhaps he was unsure. But it didn't matter. He left. How could he stay? How could he face everyone without anyone like Bune? But there was one thought in his mind as he hesitated. Sonic. How could he just leave Sonic hanging like this? Sonic had been his best friend ever since Tails could remember. Maybe that's why he left so abruptly. Sonic would try to stop him. The ground was muddy and dark with the rain. Tails looked up and saw a crash of thunder. It was too windy to fly, and he had a risk of being hit by lightning. He shivered and pulled himself further on. He hadn't gone too far when he heard a crack. "Is anyone there?" He asked fearfully, unsure of what was near him. Suddenly there was a rush of air from behind him. He ducked forward quickly and swerved around. "Only a tree..." But it didn't sound like thunder that had brought it down. Tails tiptoed closer through the shield of the forest to the tree. It wasn't smoldering. The left side was shredded completely, as if it had been hit by some tremendous force. Suddenly there was another rush of air, but no crack. Tails was terrified as he turned slowly to face what was there. He didn't see who it was, it was too dark. He only saw a blur. Boom. It echoed through the night, monotonous and caucophonous with the cracking sound. Tails's eyes dilated as he flew back. Red blood spilled on the ground as he hit the tree. More red was on the tree as he slid down and slumped onto the floor. And the figure was standing there. All that was seen was a glow of green. And he walked off into the night. ---------
