MIDWEST
FUR FEST: CON REPORT!
11/20/01
Well, I'm back from MFF, my first con ever! I am pleased to say that
my first con experience was a great one, and that, for those of you thinking
about attending a con for the first time, that MFF is a wonderful con
to start out with.. it was small and cozy, but there were enough people
there to allow me to meet several furs I know online and many of the artists
I admire as well.
Perhaps the highlight of the convention was that several Army officers
(There was a military convention in the same hotel as the con, so there
were people in army uniforms all over the place) came down to the dance
Saturday night.. and three or four of them were even wearing tails! Certainly
a unique sight, especially considering that at least one of them was a
full blown Colonel. According to Uncle Kage, however, nearly the same
thing happened at the last MFF.. so if I ever join the military, it'll
have to be the army :D
However, my personal highlight came from the Artist's Alley that night.
I got to participate in the MFF Art Jam over on Jim Groat's West
Corner Of the Park, and even managed to sneak a picture into Shawntae
Howard (Tamar)'s sketchbook, as well as pick up images from two of
my favorite artists ^.^
Thanks to everyone out there that helped to make my first con experience
a great one, and I plan on making it to more conventions than ever now!

MEMORIAL
DAY
Remember.
Monday, May 29th
2001 was Memorial Day, the time of the three-day weekend, where we get to kick
back on Monday with a beer, have ourselves a barbeque, spend the day without
a care, then head back to work on Tuesday griping about how short the "long"
weekend turned out to be. And that's all there is to it, right?
No.
It's Memorial
Day. Memorial - meaning that something needs to be remembered. During your revelry
Monday, stop for a moment and think. This great country of ours wasn't just
handed to us. It was bought with the blood of patriots. We haven't gone all
these years without paying our dues - we've paid them with the blood of soldiers.
Some of them willing patriots, glad to trade their lives for the rest of us.
Some of them less than willing to serve when called, yet still they did their
duty faithfully.
Patriots, martyrs,
soldiers doing their duty - their blood paid for our freedoms, and continues
to do so to this day and beyond. For their memory, we've been given this day,
this ONE day to remember them, so by all means, put down the beer and stop devouring
the steak for a moment and remember them, their sacrifice...
And be grateful.
