PLACING THE NATION

Where we move to will be of vital importance to the success of the Exodus. We will desire from one to ten counties of the United States to form this new union.

Traits we are looking for in our nation:

  • Economically backwater. A poor county is more likely to be verdant, have little extraneous infrastrucure, will be easier to control with the influx of money and votes, and will break up fewer families when the contry secceds.
  • A university. Universities are a major source of income, not just in terms of money, but in terms of people and ideas.
  • Noted for its religious tolerance.

Traits that will exclude a nation from our search:

  • A high population. We expect 25 thousand furs and otherkin to join within the first year of the Exodus; we must be able to control the local government within that time to ensure any 'stragglers' are able to join without problem.
  • A key power plant, a large port or airport, a large military instillation, or any city with over 100'000 people. Such areas are places the Federal Government will not give up without a fight.

DRAWING IN NEW CITIZENS

A nation cannot survive on a single generation. To continually draw in new citizens, we will offer these benefits:

  • An advanced information infrastructure. Compared to the rest of the world, the infrastrucutre of the United States is backwater; the new nation will offer access to high-speed internet and cellular services at costs and availability unrivaled in North or South America.
  • A religiously free government:
    • Mairrage is a religious institution, with 'state' mairrages being purely optional and offering no special benefits; one should not have to register one's love life with the government.
    • Sexual orientation, like all other religious choices, will be protected from descrimination by the state.
  • A well-designed capital and . Unlike 'normal' cities, which form haphazardly and are inefficient and stressful for its occupants, the cities of our new nation will be efficient and clean.
  • A strong police force (one officer per thousand, roughly four times the rate of the United States) which can double as a militia in times of national crisis.
  • Scientifically friendly. Stem cell research, cloning, and other such controversial technologies are not being developed to their fullest extent due to religious misinformation in the United States; by easing restrictions, the influx of well-to-do medical research companies and their literate, educated workers will ease our burdens greatly.
  • More electronic freedoms than anywhere else in North America. For example, if Palladium is passed, all Microsoft and Linux motherboards with Palladium chips on it will be confiscated at the border.

PAYING THE BILLS

These measures will fund our new nation:

  • State-controlled land: Since our nation will be small (perhaps under 250 square miles), all land will be State-controlled. Rent will will perform the function of income taxes, instead of hopelessly bureaucratic, complex income tax codes.
  • The legalization of marijuana. Tobacco and rum helped fund the Americas when they were young; by legalizing marijuana, requiring licenses for its growers and taxes for its sellers, we will see a large influx of cash. And, 50 or 100 years down the road, we can raise the prices for a marijuana cigarette to by $1 each year, and they won't be able to complain, because they're hooked! Both immediate and long-term funds!
