Why do you care?

Dance With The White Buffalo

You watch the asphalt slowly creeping,

Washing away the sand,

The nights grow warmer,

The days always insufferably hot.

So you wander out into the great unknown,

Unknown no longer to the lost wanderer.

And you lie in the tall grass,

Crying out but no one hears you

When you straggle back to society

They beat you with their barbed wire whips,

But you cry no longer,

The tears no longer fall, theirs nothing left to cry for

So you wander off once more

And you dance with the white buffalo

Across the Great Plains

Hear the lonesome gray wolf howl

Watch the coyote wander and the eagle soar overhead.

Marvel in the beauty once again

As you dance with the white buffalo.

You sit in the corner, strumming your guitar

Some change and a half smoked cigar,

Singing quietly to yourself  “Don’t fence me in”

They sneer and they laugh

As the noose slowly tightens.

And you drift off once more

To the lonely prairie

And you dance with the white buffalo

Across the aging plains

And you stare off into the distance where the cities skyline can be seen.

Howling

The moon hangs, wavering

Just beyond your reach

A wolfish howl sounds in the distance

Hanging from the tip of your tongue

Your lips bleed for the long low notes

That rip from your chest like a river flowing

Flowing out across the sky.

You called and I didn’t listen

I nodded said “yeah,” “that’s right”

Where needed

But I didn’t really hear you.

You laughed and I didn’t think it was funny

I laughed too

When needed

But I didn’t really find it amusing.

You smiled and I didn’t find it uplifting

I grinned stupidly

I didn’t really know why

But didn’t question it at the time.

You cried and I didn’t find it upsetting

I cried too

So you wouldn’t feel alone

But I really wasn’t that sad.

Crimson Stains

Crimson stains

Upon the rug

Left by someone else’s blood

While the hours pass us by

I couldn’t stand to see him cry

The knife lay peacefully in the drawer

‘Til  I picked it up once more

Carried it into the room

And jammed it in his neck.

Crimson stains splash on the rug

Left by someone else’s blood

Now I sit

Upon the floor

Wondering what’s left

Shall lie here forever more

Artistic Endeavors

Just breathe,

Take a deep breath

As you think, “hey I could do that”

But no matter how hard you try

All you get is crap

So you go back to looking once more

You stare at the lines

The shadings galore

And you watch as the pencil shavings fall to the floor

And once more you think, “I could do that”

So you pick up the pen and the paper

Sit down for an hour and sketch

And watch as the lines slowly follow the same pattern

And the shit hits the fan once again

You wonder how they do it

What makes them so great

Why are your circles so crappy

Your lines so uneven, never straight

Never as bold or as strong as you’d expected

Or quite what you had in mind

So you return once again to looking

And dreaming of art so sublime.

Furry Poem

You hear a low growl from nearby

And you realize the low rumble comes from your own throat

Drowning out the anguish you feel

You just wish for once you weren’t so human

Or for once you could just throw it all away and become the beast

Become the other that guides your ways

You just want to protect them

But you can’t do that now, you’re helpless

So you sit alone and you cry out to a world that never listens

Sigh at the far distant moon and let out a low piercing howl

Calling to your friends in distant realms

Far from where your feet tread.

Rob

Don’t worry about him

He can fend for himself

You can’t protect those that can’t help themselves

But you’ll worry still

He won’t care

He thinks he’s ok

Locked in that house

Where the evil will harbor ‘til he cuts himself again

Don’t cry for his loss don’t cry for his pain

That’s what he wants, to be cared for in vain

One more lost soul on this mountain of regret

He’ll cry out his pain

As the world remains silent.

Lost Highway

Lost highway

Lost highway

Whisper my name

Unending

Unbending

Show me the way

Why do you care?

Why do you do this

You would destroy yourself for them

Go through hell

   and maybe not come back

Who are they

   that would hold you sway

Destroy your dreams

Don't look the other way

Don't turn your head

For it's you who are abused

It's you who they use

I will not help those who will not help themselves

Another lost soul on this highway to hell

And we'll see how many times you get run over on the way.
