Ever wonder what happened to the characters of "Balto" after the movie? Then read this and find out!!
(At least, this is what the voices in my head tell me what happened. :) )
Balto--He, of course, was mated to Jenna. They had two pups, a male and a female. He went on to lead his own sled team. Balto was adopted by Rosy's family, and they also purchased a few other dogs. Balto died of old age, living with Rosy's family. He lived to the age of 16. (oh, all ages are in human years.)
Jenna--She became mated to Balto, and had two pups. She helped Balto with his sled team, and lived a long life with Rosy when they moved to New York together. Jenna reached the ripe age of 21.
Steele--He apologized to Balto in the end, and ended up being forgaven by the town's dogs, and accepted back into society. His master continued to use him for dogsledding and breeding. Steele got tired of it and disappeared on his master and was found eloping with Slyvie. They had six pups together, all fine strong animals like Steele. Steele lived to 19, and lived fours years after his master died.
Star--Yep, our loveable little "rat-dog" got together with Dixie, and chased enough sticks by moonlight to upstage Balto and Jenna. ;) However, these two never did have any puppies. Just as well, Dixie's girl could hardly afford two dogs, as Star was purchased by Dixie's owner (she couldn't bear to watch her Dixie pine for Star). Star later ran in Balto's team. Star died when he was 15, protecting Dixie's owner from a bear when they when camping once.
Nikki--Nikki continued on as he usually did, hanging out mostly with Kaltag and Star and running in Steele's team. It didn't really bother him when Star left for Dixie, in fact, he and Kaltag became better friends. When Steele's team broke up (after his master died), Nikki was purchased by a couple in Canada who wanted a nice, calm dog. Nikki prospered there, although he missed Kaltag and Nome. He lived to the ripe age of 21.
Kaltag--He continued on, for the most part, much as Nikki did. When the team broke up, he was purchased by a family in a nearby town for their 7 year old son. Kaltag missed Star when he left, and often wished he had been nicer, and wondered why Star never bit or fought back. Kaltag also dearly missed his friend Nikki, but watching over the young boy gave him something to do, at least. He lived until 18, and died protecting his boy.
Dixie--This cute purple pup lived and loved Star, as soon as they started courting. She caused much fret and worry for her owner, as she had a tendency to disappear for several nights along with Star. Dixie's owner finally gave in, and spent some of her saved-up money to purchase Star, just for her lil Dixie. On an overnight camping trip in the forest nearby Nome, a bear attacked the three, killing Star. Dixie pined away for several days thereafter, but her newfound life of luxury helped ease the pain. She lived the longest of all the dogs: 29 years.
Sylvie--After the medicine incident, for about a month, every dog in town abused Steele. Except Sylvie. She just hid in the shadows, silently watching. When Steele was accepted back into normal society, Sylvie secretly began meeting him, and talking. She still loved him, and one night they ran off together into the forest. Steele's owner, and some of his friends, found them together and took them back to town. Sylvie turned out to be pregnant, and had seven pups. One died right away, and Sylvie never told him. She lived to the age of 24.
Boris--The goose, after making sure Balto was settled into Nome society, returned into his feathered brethern. He returned to Nome every summer and visited Balto and his family. Boris never forgot that Balto had saved his life, but his debt had been paid to Balto. He missed that pooch. Boris lived to 15 years old.
Muk and Luk--These two polar bears grew up rapidly, into strong, handsome creatures. They occasionally visited Balto, whenever they came by Nome. Muk devoted himself to one mate. Luk, on the other paw, sired many cubs but never settled on a single bear to spend the rest of his life with. Muk lived to 59, Luk to 71.
Rosy--Shortly after her father died of pneumonia, her and her mother moved to New York, to live with her grandparents. Rosy was 22 when her father passed away. Jenna and her daughter came with Rosy. (Jenna's male pup had been sold to a musher.) Jenna's daughter was bred once to a champion malamute, and produced Blaze. Rosy grew up, got married, and had a son and a daughter herself.
Steele's master--He died while out seal-hunting with Eskimo friends. He fell through some thin ice and was never recovered from the icy water. When he died, his team was split up and sold, everyone except Steele, who stayed with his owner's widow.
Interesting, eh?
