The game takes place on a world called Dominara, players use decks of cards with certian abilities and different colours to best their opponents deck, knocking his or her total points to 0 from 20. Each card has different power and abilities, and can be used in certian ways to achieve victory faster. It's like a game of chess, skill and luck prove the victor.
Each deck consists of Lands, which produce the mana needed
to play your others cards, Creatures, Spells, and artifacts.
Creatures Each have a power and toughness, shown as (1/1)
in that order. the power is how many points a creatures will deal, and
the toughness is equal to how many points it has before being discarded.
Spells fall under three different catagories. Sorcery,
which can only be played during your turn, have verious effects from boosting
a creatures power to discarding one of your opponents cards. Enchantments,
which can be play on your creatures or set aside to ahve an effect on your
whole strategy. And finally, Instant, which can be played at any time,
usualy in response to your opponent playing a card.
Artifacts are sometimes powerful cards, which have a
wide array of effects, and can even be Artifacts Creatures, which also
ahve a power and toughness.
Below are some examples of cards, a general description
of the colours, and the lands they are associated with.
In play, players go through several phases of play, first the untap phase, in which any 'tapped' cards are turn to their proper positions, then an upkeep phase, in which any card cost to keep the card in play are played, then players draw one card at the beggining of their turn, then set down a land card, if they have one, after that, come the main phase in which spells and creatures are played, 'tapping' (turning sideways) the lands to use their associated mana type. then come the Combat Phase, in which creatures are use to try and knock your opponents points to 0, he chooses creatures to block with, and points totals are taken and any creatures having taken more point than they are allowed are discarded. Any creature he doesn't block with a creature or card effect gets through and deals it's number of points to the opponents point total. Then comes another Phase of spell casting and such, then a discard phase, and the opponents turn.
Tapped cards are used and cannot be used until the untap
phase, they cannot block or use abilites that requier a 'tap' symbol.
-The colours-
-Green-
Nature and tranquility, and destructive
forces beyond control, these things are embodied in the colour Green. It's
symbol is a tree, and it's power lies in it creatures and mana production.
Elves are the staples of many green decks, including my own, for they can
produce a huge amount of mana in a short time.
Green is associated with Forests,
which is their land type.
Opposistion: Blue/black
Allied: White/Red
-Red-
This is the colour of chaos and
disorder, this colour has many powerful creatures, some with an incredibly
low casting cost, and a lot of direct damage spells, which target specific
creatures and can discard them instantly. the power of red lies in cards
such as Lightining Bolt and Shock, which can deal enough damage to send
a large creature to the discard pile in a moment.
Red is associated with Mountians,
the land type.
Opposistion: White/Blue
Allied: Green/Black
-Black-
The colour of Death and Decay, by
far the most powerful colour in terms of creature destruction, with cards
like Dark Banishing and Dark Ritual, is also produces a huge amount of
mana in a short time, so is a very powerful and deadly colour.
Black is associated with Swamps.
Opposistion: White/Green
Allied: Blue/Red
-Blue-
The colour of the mind and illusion,
this colour is very powerufl when it comes to messing with the efftivness
of your opponents decks and creatures. Cards like Counterspell and Arcane
Denial allow you to discard your opponents cards as he tries to play them,
and others, like Oppotunity allow you to draw mutipul cards in a turn.
Blue is associated with Islands.
Oposistion: Green/Red
Allied: Black/White
-White-
The colour of chivalry and life.
White is exact opposite of black, life giving and restoring, the power
of white relies in it creatures and it life giving abilites. Creatures
like Serra Angel are powerful, due to thier ability to not tap to attack,
which leave them open to block during the opponents turn, and cards like
Healing Salve, which give you three points for the cost of one mana.
White is associated with Plains.
Opposistion: Red/Black
Allied: Blue/Green
-Artifacts-
These have no colour, but they are
very powerful. Cards like Icy Manipulator allow you to tap your opponents
cards so he cannot use them, and creatures like Teeka's dragon are incredibly
powerful.
Artifacts use any land for their
mana.
