GoldDisk MovieSetter animations are probably the most flexible animation
format around. Animations are stored as a bunch of backgrounds, sounds and
sets. Sets are smaller images that get placed on top of the background. A
frame list at the end describes each frame, specifying which background to use
and a list of sets to put on that background with depth information so
characters can pass behind or in front of each other. If present, sound
information is contained here as well to sync it to the action.
ShowMVS displays MovieSetter animations on any MS-DOS compatible PC with VESA
Video BIOS Extensions. Sound can be played through a SoundBlaster compatible
sound card.
