So I went out with a craving for big stompy tripods and death and destruction on a planetary scale. I found both DVD copies of War of the Worlds (the 1953 and 2005 versions) were cheap so I snapped 'em up. All I need now is to find the BBC Television adaption of John Christopher's The Tripods trilogy (which I hear is only the first book, what a pity). Let the War begin!");
addNews("dvdsnews",	new Date(2006, 6,24),"","gui/dvds/stargate-5.gif","","","Lots of cheap DVDs","At last, JB Hi-Fi has the Stargate SG-1 boxsets for the uber cheap $50AUD again, so I grabbed the last four, completing my SG-1 collection (except for SG-1 season 9 and Atlantis). The have also released 'Short Circuit 2' and it was cheap, so I snaffled that too as well as a cheap copy of 'The Iron Giant' which no-one seems to stock anymore. I also grabbed a copy of 'Treasure Planet' because it was very cheap and I like the idea of space galleons and pirate ships. In all, I am very happy with my new aquisitions, although though I've run out of shelf space. Again.");
addNews("dvdsnews",	new Date(2006, 6, 7),"","","","","New DVDs!","Everyone is selling DVDs cheap - I managed to snap up Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for $15.82AUD (normally around $30AUD) and 20,000 Leauges Under the Sea for $8.98AUD (also normally around $30AUD). So I got my evening all planned out tonight. Bring on the popcorn!");

I had to buy it for Arcty's MST3K revival, though MTS3K have probably done most of these at one point or another. The boxset comes with four double-sided dvds, total of 1530 minutes. That's alot of cheesy movies.");

I couldn't resist, I had to buy it. I rmember watching Battlestar Galactica at 4pm on Saturday afternoons. Its cheesy as anything, complete with bad special effects, crude greenscreen masking and footage reuse, but its such a great show to watch. Perfer it over the recent remake of it (episode one: the Cylon robots were created by a reptile race called the 'Cylons', shaped them like humans because the human form was better - they were not built by humans!)");
addNews("dvdsnews",	new Date(2006, 4,28),"","","","","Damn, Missed Out!","If you see a cheap DVD, get it while you see it or you might miss out. Recently I saw a DVD in Big W called 'Epoch' which sounded like a cheesy B-grade sci-fi flick perfect for Arcty's MST300. And it was only $7AUD. But I left it a week and when I went back to get it - it was gone. It was like it didn't exist. No-one knows anything about it and no-one else stocks it. So moral to this story is: If you miss out, you either wern't meant to have it or you should have gotten it when you had the chance.");

I went into JB Hi-Fi as they were having a sale and discovered not one, but three Voltron Vehicle Force DVD collections. I've only ever seen collections two or three, never all three at once - and they were on special. *nab* mine! Possible one the things I rmember most from my childhood was the Vehicle Force Voltron cartoon on Channel 2 at 5 o'clock after school. Probably what got me interested in big transforming robots long before I was into Transformers.");

The 2 disc set also comes with te 2004 version and alot of extra. How they cram all this onto two discs, I'll never now. The only drawback - and there had to be one somewhere - is that its a limited run from September 12th to December 31st, which means anyone other than Americans will have a nigh impossible time getting their claws on a copy, and those who can will probably pay a galactic price for it. I've been waiting for this ever since the bastardisd versions came out, so we'll see what happens and might even pre-order if its not too expensive.");

If these DVDs prove to not be faulty, and the sale remains for a few more weeks, I might go back and get the last four seasons too.");

I bought the second season of Star Blazers yesterday for $60AUD, simply cos was cheap and its so hard to find. But I've also seen the Robotech and Voltron boxsets for $25AUD and original Transformers for $35AUD. If I had the money spare I would have bought out some entire sets. Two 80s sci-fi movies that somehow got forgotten when they started making dvds. I don't understand how these two movies, which have appeared on the big screen and did fairly well, could be overlooked while other rubbishy titles have made it into DVD stores to sit beside big block-buster names.");

I love this movie, its on par with The Matrix as far as story telling and special effect are concerned, maybe better, but its the one that got lost in the wake of The Matrix. The dvd was disapointing, cheaply packaged with minimal extras - a 10 minute featurette and a trailer, I'm sure they could have found more material for what should have been a great sci-fi film.");

Far from the sugar-coated cuteness of today's Disney films, Return to Oz is actually quite dark, with Dorothy being put in a victorian psychiatric hospitol because no-one believed she went to Oz. Footrot Flats has never pulled any punches and tells life on a sheep farm exactly how it is. The facts of life are in plain view and nothing is watered down, told in a humourous and realistic way. Footrot Flats rambles along in a haphazard way, tying a series of stories together by the climax.
